Teaching Competition Award| Associate Professor Wei Lijian: Leading New Business Education by Integrating Ideological and Political Education in Curriculum with Chinese and Western Wisdom, and Teaching Reform
Associate Professor Wei Lijian, young faculty of our school, won the second prize of the 9th Faculty and Teaching Competition of Sun Yat-sen University. Dr. Wei Lijian is currently Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Business, Deputy Director of the Teaching and Research Office of Finance and Investment, Director of the Big Data Research Center, Executive Director of Sun Yat-sen Bay Valley Risk Management Technology Laboratory of the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, the winner of Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Outstanding Youth Fund, and awarded as high-level financial talent in Guangzhou. He served as Editorial Director of the International Journal of Financial Engineering, Visiting Expert of Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the Statistical Operation Monitoring Center of China Securities Capital Market, distinguished expert of Guangdong Local Financial Risk Monitoring and Prevention Platform, Director of the Supply Chain Finance Professional Committee of Guangzhou Digital Finance Association, and an expert of the Blockchain Cryptography Innovation Alliance. His main research areas are FinTech and Agent-based Computational Finance. He has hosted two general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and co-hosted the R&D projects in the key fields of "Blockchain and FinTech" in Guangdong Province and the Outstanding Youth Project of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province. The research results have been published in authoritative journals in the field. He has put forward a number of policy suggestions for the economic and social development of the country and Guangdong Province, and his research views have been reported by well-known media such as CCTV News, CCTV Finance, Guangdong TV and Southern Metropolis Daily. Associate Professor Wei Lijian is mainly responsible for courses "Investment", "Quantitative Investment" and "Fixed Income Securities" for undergraduates, "FinTech", "Financial Engineering" and "Project Management Software" for postgraduates, and "Frontiers of Financial Economics" for doctoral students. As a member of the Communist Party of China, he also served as a commissary in charge of organization of the first "Double Leaders" Party Branch of the Ministry of Education, and as a young teacher counselor.
Integrating Ideological and Political Education in Curriculum with Chinese and Western Wisdom
Associate Professor Wei Lijian carefully designed and condensed, and realized the ideological and political effect of the courses from the perspectives of helping students establish scientific and rational investment concept that conforms to the socialist core values. He skillfully combined the macroeconomic analysis, information, investor behavior, application practice of investment science, etc. involved in various knowledge points of investment science with the major strategies, major decisions, policies, laws and regulations, and key investment fields supported by the party and the state, and investor education, etc. Integrating the contained ideological and political education elements into each knowledge point, linking theory with practice, not only the ideological and political curriculum was realized, but also the practicality of the curriculum has been increased. At the same time, in teaching courses, Associate Professor Wei Lijian often uses some excellent traditional Chinese cultural stories or social hot events to vividly explain some theoretical principles, enhance the interest of the course, and help students better understand the difficult points of the course to build a knowledge system that integrates Chinese and Western wisdom.
Inspiring Undergraduates to Further Study by Speculative Teaching
Associate Professor Wei Lijian insists on continuously stimulating students' interest in academic research through teaching and guiding them to continue their studies and become high-level talents. In the past five years, more than 20 students under his guidance have studied for doctoral and master degrees in prestigious universities at home and abroad through overseas advanced studies, recommendation and postgraduate entrance examinations, etc.
Create A New Way of Business Education by Teaching Reform
Associate Professor Wei Lijian, based on theoretical knowledge, uses a variety of application cases as carrier, and uses digital technology as means to explore teaching reforms, in order to cultivate students' independent learning ability, and improve their ability and practical skills to analyze and solve problems. As the first author, his project "Reform and Innovation of Experimental Practice Teaching of 'Quantitative Investment' in the Context of FinTech" won the second prize of university-level Teaching Achievement Award of Sun Yat-sen University in 2021.
Not long ago, the book "National Financial Technology Innovation" edited by Associate Professor Wei Lijian was officially published as a series of "National Finance" textbooks. From the perspective of national finance, the textbook integrates FinTech, regulatory technology, digital technology, as well as their content with macro-financial management, local financial management, and the international financial system to form an innovative overall framework.
At present, Associate Professor Wei Lijian is cooperating with Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Renmin University of China and other universities in teaching, as a key member to apply for the virtual teaching and research section of the Ministry of Education in the field of FinTech; in terms of scientific research, he is preparing to build a national-level scientific research platform for FinTech and regulatory technology; In terms of social services, he is promoting the construction of the Sun Yat-sen Bay Valley Risk Management Technology Laboratory for cooperation between universities and enterprises, and has developed a local financial digital infrastructure platform to serve the development of digital finance in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and build a national risk management center.
